AGARTALA, Aug 23 (TIWN): Fuel prices are surging high in Tripura along with the whole nation. On Sunday in various Districts, the petrol prices were recorded over Rs. 82 whereas the Diesel is available at Rs. 76 and above. Consumers in various fuel stations have expressed resentments and frustrations over the constant hikes. Addressing media, CPI-M leader Manik Dey has said, “Although fuel prices are not imposed by the Govt directly but it has controls on taxes and other issues. We demand Govt to decrease the hiked taxes. On the one side, due to pandemic, vehicle drivers are unable to take enough passengers and at the same time, hiked fuel prices have made there lives miserable. Where should the people go, who are connected with the transport services ? In the international markets, fuel prices are downed but in this country it is increasing†Petrol prices were kept on hold since June 29, while diesel prices were revised irregularly throughout the period. Petrol prices were revised on August 16 after a long pause. Since, then there has been a consistent increase in petrol rates. Even after much protests from the opposition and common men, no decrease was done to the hiked prices and opposition parties accused Modi Govt for profiting with fuel amid pandemic.
