Tripura Congress pays tribute to the First Chief Minister of State

AGARTALA, Aug 7 (TIWN): On the auspicious occasion of the 108th birth anniversary of Sachindra Lal Singha, the first Chief Minister of Tripura, Tripura Congress on Friday paid tribute to him at Congress Bhavan.

The programme was observed at around 8am. Congress State President Pijush Biswas and other leaders, activists were present on the occasion, have given floral tribute to first Chief Minister of Tripura.

“Sachindralal Singha was the symbol of unity. Regardless tribes and non-tribes, he held the peace of the state, which was later destroyed by a section with political ill motive. Today also, the unity is under severe threat. In this situation, Congress party bows head before him, who is the symbol of democracy and unity”, said Pijush Biswas, Tripura Congress’s incumbent President.

Sachindra Lal Singha was born in the year 1907on August 4. He took his last breath in the year 2000 of December 8 December.

He was a leader of the Indian National Congress and the first Chief Minister of Tripura state in northeastern India from 1 July 1963 to 1 November 1971.

In 1977, he became the leader of the newly formed Congress for Democracy party. He was elected to the sixth Lok Sabha from Tripura West constituency as a candidate of this party.

Sachindra Lal Singh, the first Chief Minister of Tripura, was a highly popular leader of Tripura. He was fondly called “Sachin-da” and was highly admired for his simplicity and amiable nature.

Sachindra Lal Singh has started his political activities from his school days as a member of “Bhatri Sangh”, an organisation of youths of Agartala. The members of the Sangh had political link with the Jugantar Party of Bengal from the year 1920 or there about.
