AGARTALA, July 20 (TIWN): The basic food item and purchasable for poor “potato” prices are going high in Tripura, along with national price hike. The potato prices raised at Rs. 40 but in many places, it has gone higher. The rising price is now a national problem, but businessmen in Tripura alleged that as in Churaibari, the vehicles are stopped for 4 to 5 days, so when the potato sacks are brought, huge part of that are found damaged. As a result, it is adding price and crisis. Ground report nationally says, the unbeatable fuel price rises are increasing the everyday commodity prices affecting states like Tripura. When commodity prices are lifting higher, potato prices also has taken a jump at Rs. 40 to Rs.50 In a major concerns, the lockdown imposed in several cities, coupled with unfavourable weather and rising fuel prices, has affected vegetable supply, leading to a steep rise in prices.

The Customers expressed resentments over increasing commodity prices. Talking to one Swapan Malakar in Gol Bazar market, he said, "When business is at loss, there are huge increases in multiple commodities. Not only potato, from fuel to vegetables everything are in rise".

Traders in wholesale mandis have told media that prices of most vegetables are likely to remain above Rs 50/kg for the next few days.

Petrol prices in Tripura continues at above Rs. 80 and Diesel above Rs. 75.

In other states also, the fuel prices and the weather both affecting the prices.

The lockdown in big cities is likely to cause a further shortage of tomato supply and the prices may go well beyond Rs 100/kg in retail markets in Delhi and its nearby states. It may affect Tripura too, unless there is a massive control by the Govt on prices including pricetags on fuels.
