AGARTALA, November 21 (TIWN): When the crimes against women had already taken a top most position in Tripura, the state govt. has taken certain steps to curb it, like recruitment of more women police and setting up more women police station. But all these seem to have bowed down in front of the increasing rate of crimes against women in Tripura.
A one day long block level seminar to be held at Mohapur on November 28 under the initiative of the state sports department. The seminar would be held on the subject of Domestic violence and disaster management.
Cases of crimes against women in Tripura are rising. In 2011, 1,503 such cases were registered while the number went up to 1,650 in 2012 and 1,706 in 2013. Beside from April 2013 to March 2014, the number of case relating to the women registered at 848 taking the number high till today.
According to the National Crimes Record Bureau, Tripura ranked second after Assam in the number of crimes against women in Northeast India.
It is to be mentioned here that when the Women's organisations believe that low conviction rate, lack of prompt action by police and victims shying from lodging complaints resulted in rise in such crimes. But what must be the present situation here in Tripura? When the women are not getting a proper justice and the police are always in a race to either hush up the lodged case or to save the accused persons. Recently many such cases had already come under limelight where the police are still on a sleep and the accused are making a free movement.
Therefore to mention here, organising seminars, workshops and awareness camp and recruiting more women police on curbing the rising crimes against women must not be enough here in the state at present because the way it has taken a giant shape, it is possible to curb the crimes related to women only when the police awake from their sleep and takes necessary steps against the accused.
