Agartala, June 18 (TIWN): The State Government has initiated massive modernization of Tripura Police including technical supports and allocated sufficient funds for it.

The Tripura Police will now get a separate IT wing for smart policing. The proposed IT wing is expected to start functioning very soon with all necessary technical supports in place. Besides, 50 IT persons will be recruited.
Despite of having sufficient funds, no effective initiative was taken by the previous government for modernizing the Tripura Police although the international boundary with Bangladesh covers the state from three sides.
Considering the importance of having an IT wing, the new government under the leadership of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has taken the new initiative.
Meanwhile, the previous government had spent only Rs. 139.655 lakh for Police department in 2015-16 but after formation of the new government, the budget had increased to Rs. 1017.903 lakh in 2019-20.
On the other hand, the state government has also emphasized on increasing the strength— 500 police constables will be recruited.
Apart from this, an initiative has been made for accommodating 398 SPOs as drivers of government vehicles and more 1100 SPOs will be kept ready for additional duties.
