AGARTALA, June 16 (TIWN): In a joint movement of Mizo Convention and another local community, for long 7 days Hunger Strike is going on in Kanchanpur announcing it for an indefinite period of strike. By this strike they said, they want a fair deal on Bru settlement and also requested the State Govt to take accountability of the locals, whose properties were damaged by Brus and those who were attacked, tortured for last 23 years due to the presence of Brus. It has been long 7 days, that the Mizo Convention and other local backed organization in indefinite hunger strike. Although the SDM talked to the agitators, but no solution came out. This problem started after Mizoram Govt, Tripura Govt and Central Govt decided jointly to welcome Brus as permanent residents of Tripura, as they are living for 23 years in state after they fled from Mizoram followed by an ethnic violence.

Tripura Govt started land identification for Brus settlement across state, but locals of Jumpui Hill sought Brus settlement outside the hills and now Kanchapur’s a major section of locals’ are demanding same.

They want Govt to recognize the pains received due to Brus attack in their locality, burnt houses years after years, according to the allegation of the Joint Movement. They alleged, scars of violence and pains given by Brus needs a justice and this is possible if Govt deals the issue fairly but not for vote banks only.
