AGARTALA, May 26 (TIWN): Amid lockdown Ice-cream factories are headed for a washout this year even in scorching summer.
For ice-cream factory owners, the months of April-july period contributes to about 40-45 percent of their annual revenues. This is the pick time where the maximum numbers of marriage happens in a year. With a large part of the season already gone and not even a minimum percentage of income they could make, now the factory owners are seeking for Government help for their survival.
Talking to TIWN one factory owner said, "Unfortunately the Covid-19 pandemic popped up during the summer which caused a huge loss in Ice-cream industries. For the fear of getting infected people are avoiding cold stuffs like ice-cream, cold drinks as much as they could. Even in marriage ceremony also people are choosing other desert items instead of Ice-cream. Situation is becoming hard for us to continue our business."
He further added,"We are becoming unable to bare the electricity bills. We are requesting the government to look after this matter and if they could grant us subsidies atleast in electricity bills. Otherwise the day is not so far when we will left with no choices rather than shutting our business down."
