Agartala, May 24 (TIWN): PAWSOME NGO's crusade against animal cruelty enabled unearthing a major racket of wildlife smugglings in Tripura.
Pawsome NGO led by its Asst Secretary Avik Sengupta, Wrigved Dutta were keeping a tab on all information regarding pertaining illegal trade of illegal native Indian birds & wild life at Tripura & trying to end the racket.
PAWSOME got a breakthough couple of days ago when One of the poachers called a Pet store owner on whatsap for suppliying illegal bird like Parrots & Mynah to the pet store.
That particular pet store deals with only legally allowed animals & birds; & hence the honest pet store owner informed us that he was approached by the illegal Racket. We thanked the pet store owner, & convinced the pet store owner to help us further to trap the racket.
PAWSOME had set up the Trap for the poacher & started a sting operation where we asked the pet store owner to agree to the poacher if the poacher calls again & bring him to Agartala to show the stock of birds.
On 23rd May, 2020; The poacher was bringing the stock of birds to show, PAWSOME members were spread all around the Street tracking the entry & exit of the area.
1 of PAWSOME member were inside the store disguised as customer for the parrots to trap the poacher.
Once the poacher entered the pet store with the birds, the pet store owner & one of PAWSOME member kept him busy in conversation, while our other members rushed in to prevent exit of the poacher from the pet store.
PAWSOME members caught the auto vehicle by which he came & got other information on the location/ address from where the auto driver picked up the poacher.; After which the auto driver was let go as he was innocent & not involved with the poacher whom we trapped.
Finally after trapping the poacher, PAWSOME forced confession from the poacher, handed over to authorities.
The person caught was a supplier/ middle man; but PAWSOME are hopeful that the main poachers who trapped the birds from Forests those full Racket can be exposed by Tripura Police after enquiring the arrested person.
PAWSOME informed the Forest Department & explained them about the sting operation by Pawsome. & Requested them to take the birds & rehabilitate them in their natural habitat.
