AGARTALA, May 4 (TIWN): Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has expressed his deep shocks over BJP led Tripura Govt’s decision on eliminating science courses from various schools in state. He said, this will completely deprive Tripura’s rural, poor and tribal students.

“First, they (Cabinet Ministers) closed schools and now they are fully shutting down choices of students. We did not open these schools thinking over how many students will read in which subjects, but schools are open field of student’s education and also freedom to chose subjects are given to them. This was the purpose of opening many schools in Tripura so that no crisis in Education would be felt. There may be only 1 student in science but does not that student has choice of choosing science subject ?”, said Manik Sarkar.

He also raised question, how rural area’s students will get chance in science in highly competition going town schools ? How will they manage suddenly in those schools ?

“Today students will study science and tomorrow one of them may become a scientist but the Govt is snatching all the chances of it, depriving the students. Just because, students are less, schools will be shutdown ? Then rural and tribal children would have no right to study according their wish ! This decision can not be supported at all”, added Sarkar.

Earlier, Tripura Govt decided to shutdown 960 schools in Tripura alleging students’ shortage. Maximum were in rural, ADC areas.

The fresh criticism was erupted after Tripura Govt has decided to eliminate around 25 schools in the West District, erupted criticism.Out of these 25 schools, maximum are in rural areas. It has squeezed the chances of talented, rural, poor students to take admission in science, as many families naturally would not have financial capacity to send their children to Agartala schools everyday. Also travelling is time consuming, affects science students' routines.

Due to less numbers of students (less than 20), Govt has taken the decision.

The schools are : 1) Anandanagar H.S. School, 2) Sukhamoy H.S.School, 3)Madhuban H.S. School, 4) Gandhigram H.S.School, 5)Madai Bazar H.S School, 6) Chowdhury Bari H.S. School, 7) Bojhjung Girls H.S.School, 8) Resham Bagan H.S.School, 9)Kabiraj Tilla H.S School, 10) Badharghat H.S.School, 11)Nandan Nagar H.S.
