Agartala, Nov 14 (TIWN): The ICFAI University, Tripura today felicitated Commonwealth Games medalist Dipa Karmakar with due honour and round of applause. The felicitation ceremony was organized at Kamalghat Campus of the University. Dipa Karmakar was found overwhelmingly happy being felicitated by the University. Her father Dulal Karmakar was also present at the felicitation ceremony.
She also commented that today's honour would encourage her further to perform better in the arena of international gymnastics.
She was handed over a flower bouquet and a memento by Professor Biplab Halder, the Pro Vice Chancellor of ICFAI University. Later, Dipa formally inaugurated annual sports competition of the University by hoisting flag. The competition has been named as 'ICTHALON 2014.'
Earlier, speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Professor Biplab Halder said, the students and rank and file of ICFAI University felt very happy today for being able to felicitate an international sports personality like Dipa. She has brought laurels for India and highlighted the name of Tripura in abroad, Professor Halder remarked. He urged upon the students to regularly take part in sports events and physical exercise to keep them fit and sound.
The Registrar Dr. Snehalata Behura, while giving vote of thanks, described Dipa Karmakar an example of sincerity and resolution and said, Dipa has reached the height of success by fixing goal and continuously trying to achieve that. Dr. Behura thanked Dipa Karmakar for accepting the invitation for felicitation and coming in the Campus.
