TIWN

Santirbazar, November 7 (TIWN): The State level Murasing Socio Cultural Festival 2014 held on November 6 at Patichari Murasing Para, Santirbazar South Tripura.
The Murasings , a sub tribe of Noatia community, are a less known tribe of Tripura. Though they are commonly treated as one of the 12 Halam Dafas, interestingly , their culture, language and religious practices are akin to the Tripuris and the Noatias. The Murasings, however, regard themselves as a neither separate tribe, nor Tripuri neither Noatia.
However on November 6 during the ongoing festival at least 3 children and 2 women were injured on fire crackers blasts. They were taken to Birchandra Primary hospital, from where they all were discharged after the first aid. The incident has triggered a resentment at the area.
The Murasings believe in spirits and deities like other tribals in Tripura. The Murasing deities are many in numbers. Some of them are worshipped regularly through different rituals. The main deities are, ’Burah, Banirok,Lairang, Kakubani, Mok, Toichakal, Toimatai, Toima, Chakljuma, Hakumi Buracha etc. Interestingly, unlike other tribes, they do not sacrifice any animal or birds before these deities. They generally satisfy their deities by offering only rice, bananas, sugarcane, batasa, fruits, khoi etc. Though the Murasings do not have faith in ‘ Shakta- cult’, yet they believe in Goddess Tripurasundari. They visit the temple of the goddess Tripurasundari or Matabari at Udaipur every year during the Diwali festival.
Their main festivals are Janmashtami, Doljatra, Rathjatra, Rashpurnims, Ekadashi, Jhulan Jatra, Guru Purnima, Annakut, Akhaytritiya etc. In each of these festivals, they organise ‘Hari Kirtan’(devotional song) and then a Vaishnav Mandali feast after observing the rituals as per Vaishnav Principle.
