AGARTALA, Jan 8 (TIWN): Trade Unions called Strike, supported by student unions and bankers crippled Agartala city and other subdivisions of Tripura on Wednesday. Along with working classes’ demands, the strike was also added by Anti-CAA protest and increasing unemployment in country. Shops, business centers, institutions remained shuttered-down in response to the strike, however, Govt has given strict warning to its employees to come to office and joining is must. Govt also warned action against all employees who will skip office on Strike Day. Vehicle movements are too halted, whereas public were seen using motor bikes maximum for personal uses.Huge numbers of securities have been deployed to hold the peace in the State and across Congress Bhawan (main headquarter), security blankets are covered. Public response have been huge to the Strike, but the BJP party activists trying to open all markets and shops forcefully.
A 24-hour nationwide strike by trade unions today however nationwide, which began at 6 am, hit transport and banking services. Around 25 crore workers are expected to participate in the strike called by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) to protest against what they call "anti-labour policies" of the central government as they press for fixed minimum wage and equal wage for equal work. Nine other trade unions in different parts of the country are part of the strike, the CITU said on Monday, adding that the centre's policies and labour laws have affected 80 crore people. The BJP-affiliated Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh is not participating in the strike.
