New Delhi / Agartala, Nov 6 (TIWN): Indian goodwill mission led by Union Textiles Minister Santosh K Gangwar, Nine Parliamentarians was concluded on wednesday at Chile.
Tripura MP and former Industry Minister Jiten Chaudhury informed TIWN that Indian goodwill mission was very successful in Mexico, Argentina, Chile.
Govt of India and those 3 Latin American countries are planning to set up permanent group of MPs to liaison with the Latin American countries on Trade, Business, Cultural exchanges.
On wednesday morning meeting was held with Mrs. Himena Rincon, Secretary General in the Office of the President of Chile (like PMO in India), she looks after the Foreign Relation and Programme Implementation Departments. This was the last official programme of Indian Goodwill Parliamentary Delegation in Chile. The meeting was held in the historical Presidential Palace, Santiago, where Dr. Salvador Allende was assassinated in 1973.
The Indian Goodwill Parliamentary Delegation also held meeting with Mrs. Isabel Allende, daughter of legendary leader DR. SALVADOR ALLENDE and present President of the Senate of Chile. She is the Second in Command of the present ruling Socialist Party of Chile, next to President, Dr. Michelle Bachelet.
Mrs. Isabel Allende's father Dr. Salvador Allende was the first elected Leftist President in Latin America. Dr. Salvador Allende was dethroned and killed by General Pinochet in 1973. However, under the leadership of present Socialist and Central Left Government in Chile has made remarkable achievement. 85% of Chillean population lives in the urban areas. Literacy rate is 98%. Per capita income is 23,165 USD against India's 5,777 USD(PPP). Chile is second largest economy of South America.
The Indian Delegation also held meeting with Mr. Aldo Cornejo, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile(Camara de Deputados) and Mrs. Loreto Carvajal, President of India- Chile Interparliamentary Group and other Deputies in Congress Building at Valparaiso. The meetings was very cordial and encouraging.
Its a moment of pride and honour for Tripura that Tripura's MP Jiten Chaudhury was the only MP chosen by Modi Govt from North East India to be part of this prestigious Indian Delegation comprising 9 MPs and Union Textile Minister on a Latin America goodwill mission.
