AGARTALA, November 2 (TIWN): The Congress and the BJP are two sides of the same coin, they are not for the common man, said Minister for Co-operation, Fisheries and Home (Fire service) Khagendra Jamatia while delivering the speech in the 36thseminar of Tripura State Co-operative Consumers Federation Employees Association (TSCCFEA) at MLA hostel here today.

The two parties are always with affluent businessmen and bureaucrats, but never work for the common people, he alleged. He said the UPA government had taken the nation to the point of no return and the BJP is also equally responsible for it as it tried to befool people with false commitment.

Both the parties have gone on the path of abandoning India’s independent foreign policy and placing the country hostage to the interests of USA. Similarly, both the national parties have competed with each other as far as corruption is concerned. Where there are instances of the 2G, 3G scams under the Congress, there are also the examples of the Yedurappa scams under the BJP, the minister mentioned.

Both BJP and Congress do not want important police reforms. One of the most important reasons why both these parties want police totally accountable to them rather than to the people is so that they can make use of money and muscle power during elections. BJP and Congress both are equally guilty of crony capitalism and favors to corporate, he added.

Showing an alternative path of development yet again, the state again topped in the matter of MGNREGA implementation for the fourth time in a row, the minister added. This success of the Left Front government of Tripura vindicates the dire need of establishing a government which could implement alternative, pro-people policies at the centre too, he added.

In the financial year 2012-13, the state stood first among the 28 Indian states for having provided each enrolled person 87 days of work a year on an average. Now, as the financial year 2013-14 ended on March 31, Tripura was way ahead of other states again by providing the same number of days of work per person in a year, as it had done earlier, the minister mentioned.

The minister further urged the Tripura State Co-operative Consumers Federation Employees Association (TSCCFEA) to keep the sacrifices of the martyrs always at heart and carry on the struggle against injustice.

During the seminar five new members joined the Tripura State Co-operative Consumers Federation Employees Association (TSCCFEA).
