Chandrapur brutal incident: TAPC seeks investigation report, next hearing tomorrow

Agartala, Nov 02 (TIWN): After a span of 14 days in jail custody, all the accused persons (APs) into Chandrapur brutal incident would be produced before the CJM court tomorrow. According to the sources, under the immense pressure from all corners, police are trying to gather witnesses and evidences actively.
Adding woes to the state government, the Tripura Police Accountability Commission (TPAC) on Saturday asked for the investigation report from the police on the alleged torture of Soma Majumder (Debnath) at Tata Kalibari area in Chandrapur.

 A separate investigation is being conducted on the role of the police into the issue, a source inside the TPAC said. Earlier, two complaints were registered with the police regarding the brutal torture on Soma Majumder with the National Commission for Women and the Tripura Police Accountability Commission.

Both complaints reportedly accused the state police over inaction into the issue were lodged online. Both institutions were requested to inquire into the incident for necessary action. Earlier, Chief Justice of Tripura High Court- Deepak Gupta summoned investigation report on the issue.

It is to be mentioned here Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), West Tripura sent all the FIR named persons to 14 days jail custody by cancelling all the anticipatory bail orders for accused persons granted by the Judicial Magistrate (First Class).

There have been allegations against that police not giving importance to the case right from the beginning. However, police had to retreat after uproar by political parties mainly Congress and Mahila Congress.

On the pre-eve of Laxmi puja, Soma Majumder was barbarically tortured by allegedly the cadres of ruling front at Tata Kalibari area of Chandrapur under East Agartala police station. On the same evening, the victim had logged an FIR against 18 persons in this regard at East Agartala police station.
