Agartala, Nov 2 (TIWN): The residents of Paschim Bhubanban area under 1 no. ward of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Sunday staged massive protest demanding drinking water facility, electricity and repairing of a brick soiling road which connects them to Airport road from their locality.

According to the locals, no water supply facilities are available in the locality for long period. As a result they face acute drinking water crisis especially in the dry spell. Above 90 per cent of the residents are dependent on agriculture for livelihood. But no water supply facilities have been offered to them by the concerned authority despite several requests, said a local.

The residents including Ashis Roy, Rakhal Roy, Gita Rani Saha, Dinesh Roy and Milan Sarkar of Paschim Bhubanban alleged that merely a brick soling road from Airport road to the locality was constructed in the way back 1992. Since then the repairing of the brick soiling road remained pending. As a result, the condition of existing road becomes very poor day by day and residents have been facing crucial problem for long-period.

They also alleged that due to 1 phase electricity connection, the area is under the grip of low voltage for long time. We cannot watch TV properly and our children face troubles while they read in the evening only because of low voltage, said the locals. Though the street lights were offered in the same locality but most of them are now damaged.

Following the drinking water crisis, electricity (low voltage) and poor condition of road problems, the residents earlier went to the councilor of AMC 1 no ward- Milan Das and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA)- Jiten Sarkar but it paid no attention to them. As a result their demands remain unfulfilled till date.

According to a local, more than 300 members in 80 families are residing in the West Bhubanban area, outskirt of the capital city- Agartala. The residents today informed, they will move for massive protest and would organize road blockade on Airport (VIP) road if their demands remain unfulfilled within next 25 days.

Though the state people are passing away through the ‘golden era’, but allegedly there are many areas like Paschim Bhubanban, where the people are being deprived to get basic amenities by the state government.
