Agartala, Oct 30 (TIWN): Following the first ensuing election of Tripura State Medical Council, recently the nomination paper’s submission period concluded. Altogether 16 candidates from two panels- All Tripura Government Doctors’ Association (ATGDA) alliance with IMA and Retired Doctors’ Association and another panel including the members of all organization alliance with Tripura Doctors’ Forum have submitted nomination papers.

The ensuing election of Tripura State Medical Council (TSMC) is scheduled to be held on December 24 while the vote counting will be conducted on December 25 to December 27. The returning Officer will declare the election result on December 27. Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by 4 pm of November 03, next.

A total of 1182 voters will decide the fate of 7 candidates for State Council and 1 contestant for National Council respectively. Both panels are continuing silent campaigns in favour of the candidates through Facebook, Twitter, Google (+), SMS and E-mail.

The candidates of the ATGDA are- Dr. Abhijit Datta (National Council), Dr. Partha Bhattacharjee, Dr. Manashi Saha Roy, Dr. Manik Chowdhury, Dr. Nihar Das, Dr. Nepal Bhowmik, Dr, Amar Chakma and Dr. Hiranmoy Dey.

The candidates of another panel supported by Tripura Doctors’ Association are- Dr. Dilip Das (National Council), Dr. mangal Manik Debbarma, Dr. Rajat Chakraborty, Dr. Ashok Chakraborty, Dr. Bappaditya Some, Dr. Sanjay Nath, Dr. Partha Bhattacharjee (TMC) and Dr. Kaushik Chakraborty.

According to the sources, the ensuing election of Medical Council is vital not only for the doctor’s society but also for the influential persons as above 90 percent of highly educated and independent doctors are not satisfied with the activities of ATGDA. According to a section of doctors, the organization only works for the state government instead of supporting the doctors accordingly.

The quality of Health Services and Health Education in the state is very poor. Medical Council of India recently cancelled 6 PG courses in Agartala Government Medical College. But surprisingly the state government and ATGDA is playing negative role to handle such situation, the sources said.
