AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, Oct 2 (TIWN): Tripura Governor Ramesh Bais on the occasion of Father of the Nation, freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary paid tribute to the great soul at Gandhighat in Agartala, said, “It is due to Mahatma Gandhi today India is a free countryâ€. Bais also said, “Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology teaches us, how without violence and peacefully a country can win against oddsâ€.“It was Mahatma Gandhi who sacrificed his life for the country. Truth and non-violence were Gandhiji’s message. Today we are celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, but if we really want to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, then we must follow the path of non-violence he had shownâ€, the Governor told media.
“Mahatma Gandhi taught how a country can be won by non-violence too and he taught it to the whole world”, he said.
“If on the occasion of Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary we take oath to walk on Mahatma Gandhi led shown path of truth and non-violence and can establish “santi” (peace), “aman” (unity, peace) and also take attempts to make India a great country then only Gandhiji’s birth anniversary celebration will be meaningful. If this oath can be taken today, then it will be a truthful tribute to Mahatma Gandhi”, said the Governor.
Minister Santana Chakma also remained present on this occasion and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
Tripura Govt, BJP and Congress Party too along with the nation celebrated this day with full enthusiasm. Thousands of school students participated in Swachh Bharat Mission and Prabhat Feri, led by Chief Minister Biplab Deb.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist, and political ethicist, who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British Rule, and in turn inspire movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.
