AGARTALA, Sep 27 (TIWN): After Badharghat by-election result favoured BJP, though in addition of 14% drop in voting percentage than the Lok Sabha election, CPI-M convener Bijan Dhar has thanked Badharghat voters who amid much intimidation voted for CPI-M.
CPI-M candidate Bulti Biswas is in the second position with around 5,000 voting percentage’s gap with the ruling BJP winning candidate Mimi Majumder.
Addressing media, Bijan Dhar said, “Tripura Assembly Badharghat election which held on September 23rd today ended with the result out. Although CPI-M candidate could not win the election but she (Bulti Biswas) has gained huge support from the common men”.
“At the same time, BJP’s anti-people decisions, anti-democratic moves attacks on people which generated resentments among the common men has drained BJP’s vote banks below 50%”.
Bijan Dhar stated that this election has proven that “Restoration of Democracy is possible in Tripura if people are united”.
The Marxist leader further alleged “massive rigging”, “threats house to house” which was major cause of BJP’s victory.
Results
BJP (Mimi Majumder) : 20,487 votes (1st)
CPI-M (Bulti Biswas) : 15,211 votes (2nd)
Congress (Ratan Das) : 9,105 votes (3rd)
