AGARTALA, Sep 27 (TIWN): After marathon race between BJP and CPI-M candidates in the Badharghat (Tripura) by-election result, BJP candidate Mimi Majumder has finally won by-election at defeating CPI-M and Congress. Amid 15 VVPAT machines' malfunctioning, the vote counting completed peacefully. A saffron celebration reported across the Badharghat constituency followed by BJP’s victory with difference of around 5200 votes. The BJP supporters celebrated, exchanged sweets and played with saffron colour. Analytical-storms already kicked off centering the Election result to seal which party has actually "come back" and which party's performance has downed. Amid BJP has successfully bagged MLA seat at the Badharghat constituency on Friday but a major drop of voting percentage was seen with 14% fall in compare to the Lok Sabha Election held before 4 months. Moreover, BJP’s alone vote banks are lower than CPI-M and Congress’s joint vote banks which may effect the future political decisions and also signed the raising anti-incumbency against BJP Govt among the Badharghat voters although the passes-away MLA Dilip Sarkar was a BJP MLA till he passed away on April 2, 2019.

In by-election, BJP got 20,487 (44%) whereas in Lok Sabha Election it was 28,140 (58%). In case of CPI-M in by-election CPI-M scored 15,211 votes (33.12%) and in Lok Sabha it acquired 9733 (20%). Moreover, BJP’s win in By-Election initiated a Comeback for CPI-M amid intimidation and rigging allegations. Oppositions’ votebanks totaling is going more than BJP can put impact in future Political ‘alliances’. Congress candidate Ratan Das got 9,105 votes which has too increased than the Lok Sabha Election.

However, there were massive resentment among BJP members about the candidate selection and infightings were reported inside the party about BJP's by-election candidate Mimi Majumder. This may be another reason for the down voting percentage in Lok Sabha election.

BJP (Mimi Majumder) : 20,487 votes (1st)

CPI-M (Bulti Biswas) : 15,211 votes (2nd)

Congress (Ratan Das) : 9,105 votes (3rd)

However, when Lok Sabha Election’s comparison with Assembly election has been rubbished by pro-BJP analysts let’s have a comparison with 2018’s Assembly Election to know who actually has “Come Back”.

Why Congress is still NOT a LOSER ???
The by-poll to the Badharghat seat, reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates, was necessitated following the death of sitting BJP legislator Dilip Sarkar.  Five-time Congress legislator Sarkar, who joined the BJP in 2017 along with seven other Congress MLAs, died on April 1 after prolonged illness.

Many media houses are slamming Congress party for Badharghat by-election’s poor results, but Congress is not a loser as Ratan Das who has gotten 9,105 votes this time in By-Election, in 2018 the main Assembly Election he got only 505 votes.

BJP’s late MLA Dilip Sarkar won the election with 28,561 whereas CPI-M’s Jharna Das got 23,113 votes and only 505 votes were bagged by Ratan Das from Congress which is merely 0.95%.

If compared to the Assembly election BJP, CPI-M both parties vote banks have been downed.

This time BJP got 20,487 (44%), decreased from 53.84% in 2018-Assembly Election 2018 and CPI-M has scored 15211 votes (33.12%), whereas in 2018-Assembly Election it was 43.57%.

BJP + CPI-M votebanks must be analysed : However, CPI-M and Congress together got more vote thank BJP signaling an alliance can benefit both parties to unseat the BJP.

Background of By-Election : Last month the Election Commission announced bypolls for four Assembly seats in the four states.  The ECI had taken the decision to hold by-polls after taking into consideration various factors like local festivals, electoral rolls, weather conditions etc. In a four-cornered electoral battle, the by-poll was contested between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mimi Majumder, opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front nominee Bulti Biswas, Congress aspirant Ratan Chandra Das and SUCI(C) contestant Mridul Kanti Sarkar.

Mimi Majumder (BJP) has marked the ultimate victory !
