AGARTALA, October 28 (TIWN): Crisis of petroleum products mostly diesel in Tripura has taken worst turn in 14 consecutive day on Tuesday, as movement of vehicles on street has reduced that resulted a problem for the daily commuters. Most of the diesel driven public vehicles stayed off the roads for past few days due to fuel crisis. Only CNG run vehicles are in operation but there is also a crisis in supply because of infrastructure. Taking the advantage of shortage of supply and non-monitoring of market, a litter of diesel is being sold at Rs 100-150 in the black market in Agartala. Due to the crisis we are bound to buy the diesel from black market, said a truck driver.

According to the Deputy Director of Food Shekhar Lal Das, a total of 72 diesel loaded tankers are on its way from Assam to Tripura. “We expect that the situation would be normalized within 3 to 4 days," the Deputy Director added.

On asked about the reason behind the crisis, the Deputy Director said earlier 60 percent oil was coming from train and remaining 40 percent oil by road. But due the mega block construction at present the total 100 percent oil is coming by road, which is the main reason behind the crisis, the Deputy Director said.

This acute shortage has forced petrol pumps to ration the fuel. The city requires a total of 30,000 liters of diesel per day, the Deputy Director mentioned.

Speaking to TIWN a truck driver namely Sandeep Saha said that I have come here for diesel but they are only giving liters per truck. How can we do with so little diesel?  Outside in the black-market diesel is available at Rs. 100 to 150 per liter but that is also adulterated with kerosene. Most of the filling stations have put the board of no diesel but actually there is oil. We are compelled to buy diesel from the black-market at Rs.100 to 150 per liter, he added.

It is to be mentioned here that, earlier, a acute fuel crisis hits Tripura as fuel that comes to the state from Assam has been disrupt due to the continuous blockade of National Highway (NH) 44 in Meghalaya till September 28 last hit the stock of petroleum products of the state and by that time demand of petrol and diesel went up among the Durga puja revelers.
