sSonamura, Oct 27 (TIWN): In two successive raids jointly conducted today by the Sonamura Sub-Divisional Administration and the BSF Dhanpur BOP, total 2500 bottles of Phensedyl and Corex formulations containing Codeine Phosphate intoxicants were recovered today, the market value of which is estimated to be Rs.7.50 lakh.
Both the raids were headed by the SDM Sonamura, Subhasis Das, assisted by Anil Ranwa, Coy Commander of Dhanpur BSF BOP, and Sr. Inspector of Excise, Gopal Das. Acting on a specific input available with the SDM Sonamura, the first raid was conducted between 3.30 pm and 4 pm at Rangamatia area of Sonamura, during which 800 bottles of Phensedyl syrups concealed in a bush were recovered. Close on the heels of the first raid operation, the second operation was carried out between 4.30 pm and 6 pm, in North Santinagar habitation under North Monarchak Gram Panchayat of Kathalia R D Block.
From certain abandoned houses in the area, 1700 bottles of Corex and Phensedyl syrups were recovered. All the 2500 bottles of Phensedyl and Corex formulations have been seized and taken into the custody of the SDM Sonamura. The DM Sepahijala has already been informed about the recovery of the intoxicant syrups, and permission has been sought from the Sepahijala District based Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Disposal Committee to accord permission for destruction of all the seized articles. Today’s seizure marks another major success in the persistent effort of the Sonamura Sub-Divisional Administration to clamp down on the illicit drug business in Sonamura which has poisoned innumerable lives in the Sub-Division, and given rise to a local mafia culture.
