Agartala, Oct 25 (TIWN): The patients and patient parties in Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) hospital in the heart of capital city- Agartala have been facing several terrible problems to get minimum hospitality for long period. The patient parties alleged that most of the junior doctors and staffs are impolite, arrogant, indolent and they handle the patients with off-putting approach.

In a recent visit to IGM hospital, TIWN team found water including unhygienic wastage materials was overflowing from the drain infront of the entrance of IGM hospital due to the poor condition of water sewerage system. Though many drinking water taps are available in the hospital but the availability of pure drinking water is very poor.

According to many patients admitted into IGM, the state government failed to ensure the minimum hospitality in IGM hospital. The patients have been facing several problems including lack of care and compassion, such as staff not doing enough to ensure the patient is comfortable, acute drinking water crisis, dirtiness atmosphere in the hospital, shortage of bed, inadequate doctor’s visit, rough behavior of security, business like attitude of hospital staffs and night stay is the major problem faced by patient and patients parties.

Some of the patient parties have alleged, they have found irregularities in senior doctor’s visit. They also informed that a section of nurses stay away from their responsibilities smoothly pushing them into more pressure. There is a huge lack of care and kindness, such as most of the nurses handle the patients with rough action. The non-availability of sufficient diagnostic machine is also the part of inappropriate healthcare in IGM hospital.

The patients have demanded; improvement of hospitality, best treatment at optimal cost, staff development, quality consciousness and patient centric culture must be ensured immediately in the hospital. The patient and its accompanying persons, who are already in huge amount of stress, should not be disturbed more by rough behaviour of the staff. Sympathetic approach should be followed while handling the patients and their relatives.

Though the patients and patient parties have been raising several questions about the inappropriate healthcare services in the hospitals, but the state government and concerned department still remained silent.
