Flood caused massive crop damages in Tripura, distress for farmers : Vegetable prices go more than double in local markets

AGARTALA , July 20 (TIWN): Following the incessant rain and massive flood, waterlogging total damages of crops were recorded from various parts of the state leading burning prices in Tripura markets. However the amount of the loss yet to be measured on govt side. Vegetable prices are already reached on peak in the pre-monsoon as rain damaged cultivated lands of the state farmers.Devastated farmers have demanded proper compensations and govt’s help and based on Shillong imported vegetables, the prices of vegetables are now double as the exported vegetable items prices have also hiked leading much problems for the buyers in state. West, North and Unakoti District like areas had highest affected due to flood. During the last couple of days rains have damaged also the production of vital vegetables with the farmers keeps hand-head across the rural areas of the state like, Sonamura, Kamalpur, Killa, Manu, Julaibari, Melagarh, Khowai, Charilam, Dharmanagar,Belonia,Hrishyamukh including others. The vital production like tomatoes, potatoes, watermelon cultivation and others have been damaged at large due to the pre-monsoon rain and thunder storm.

This year flood has caused also losses in Kharchi fair. Continuous rain and flood have left the roadways in pathetic shape. 2 deaths have been reported in the total flood disaster period.

With a surprise, green chillies prices have shot up at Rs. 240 per kilo at Agartala. Indeed the businessmen said, the price is more than double. Consumers are facing tremendous problems due to price hike.

Moreover, in comparison to other states, Tripura’s vegetable prices remain high.

The skyrocketing price of chilli and other items varying from place to place. Tomatoes are selling at Rs. 80 per kilo.

Bottle gourds are selling at Rs. 60, Radishes are Rs. 20 for small size  4 radishes.

Brinjals are sold at Rs. 60 and pumpkin one small piece is Rs. 40, and lemons are at 10 rupees each. 

BJP led State Govt of Tripura has demanded special package to relief the State from flood problems forever.
