AGARTALA, July 17 (TIWN): Almost by force Tripura's Gomati District's Udaipur Municipal Corporation’s former members were given resignations and Municipal corporation went in BJP leaders’ hands, but for common men the problems of the town instead of solving, it has increased. In Vivekananda Palli area, under Municipal Corporation members’ indirect hands allegedly all drains were covered up for a section of people's personal benefits which has led massive flood in that area. People are unable to come out of homes for 4 days. Now to fix the situation instead of recovering the drains, the Municipality has taken attempt to build a culvert under the national highway which has left the national highway paralyzed leading public suffering. Vehicles are bound to take another route for passage and passengers are charged with extra fares. DM to all high rank officials attempted to investigate the matter but when they came to know that this task is done by BJP leaders, there was no action so far. How without permission, a national highway can be damaged which is not even under a State Govt ?

Public have blamed Shital Majumder, the current chairperson as responsible behind the drain coverage. His in-laws’ home is also at Vivekananda Palli area, alleged few locals.

Also how far the culvert will work out to discharge water it’s questionable.  Question also raised, why did Municipal corporation covered up the drains ? To benefit whom with Govt lands ?

Resentments have fueled among the locals and daily passengers on the National Highway. This is the first time that Vivekanda Palli is undergoing such water-logging problems.
