AGARTALA, July 13 (TIWN): State PWD’s corrupt machinery neglected proper maintenance of roads, bridges since years led a bridge to collapse in MLA Asish Saha's area. Followed by heavy rain and ongoing monsoon, lack of maintenance, Indranagar bridge in Agartala has been collapsed today, erupted massive frustration and anger among the loclas.One person has been injured after he fell from the bridge while travelling in a rickshaw. Another person fell with his bike, received light injury. This incident generated panic among the people at there. The injured person’s 3 teeth have broken and also received serious injured, immediately taken to GB hospital. Local people said, they were complaining about this bridge’s collapsing condition to the local authority time to time but no action was taken to repair it. They said since 3 years, the bridge is lacking maintenance.

“So many written complaints we gave in the office, so much efforts we gave to draw the authorities notice, but nothing worked out. Today the accident could claim many lives. Then who would be responsible for that ?”, said the locals. “This is not the first accident, but our children were many times injured. The local MLA has no concern about that. Just like babies they have treated with us, but never acted”, said the angry people.

Mass gathering was observed centering the collapsed bridge which has however narrowly escaped from any major incident.

The bridge is wood-made and was left with no repairing due to negligence and corruption of state PWD. The agitated public also demanded to replace the wood made bridge and to given them a new RCC bridge.  

When media visited, no Govt official or Fire Brigade was seen on the spot but local people rescued the bike and people at there.

Locals have slammed the PWD for its blind eyes to public problems, as various complaints about this bridge was submitted in last 3 years.

Public movement is now halted due to the broken route.
