AGARTALA, June 30 (TIWN): CPI-M’s indigenous wing Gana Mukti Parishad will file a review petition in the Supreme Court against a verdict related to Forest Right Act which may cause lakhs of people’s eviction from home-shelters. CPI-M has taken the decision as the party does not find any seriousness in the Modi Govt to proceed legally against the eviction of people under SC’s verdict. Addressing media, former MP, Ganamukti Parishad President Jitendra Chaudhury said, “As everyone knows, just ahead of Lok Sabha Election, few NGOs and Indian Forest Service’s former employees filed a case in Supreme Court against Forest Right Act 2006. The petition was filed in the name of saving the environment, whereas on the other side, the corporates are getting Govt lands massively. As Govt didn’t come in support of indigenous people, thus SC’s verdict went in support of the petitioners”.

“According to the claim around 30 lakhs families will be evicted from forest land under the petition affecting crores of people”, Jitendra Chaudhury said.

“Tripura has huge numbers of people, who will be evicted if the eviction begins. Govt of India ahead of election filed a petition against SC’s verdict and after 10th July, the hearing will be started. ”, the former MP added.

“But till now there is no seriousness seen among the ruling Govt. Thus, we have decided to file a petition along with few more NGOs who work for the indigenous people’s right”, said Chaudhury.

Forest Act 2006 : The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, is a key piece of forest legislation passed in India on 18 December 2006. It has also been called the Forest Rights Act, the Tribal Rights Act, the Tribal Bill, and the Tribal Land Act.

The CPI-M leader further criticized the Modi Govt for wrong economic policy and education policy.

Jitendra Chaudhury has left for Delhi to file a case in the Supreme Court.
