AGARTALA, June 12 (TIWN): Within one year at least 6 Ekalavya schools will be inaugurated and start academic sessions in Tripura.
Govt of India has allocated permission for 6 Ekalavya schools for next one year and total 18 Ekalavya schools will be formed within next few years.
Tribal Welfare Minister Mebar Jamatia said, in last 25 years only four Ekalavya schools were built but now already 18 schools’ permission has been granted.
Central Govt also has permitted for one Ekalavya College, which will be the first College for ST students.
Ekalavya Model Residential School (EMRS) is a Govt of India scheme for model residencial school for ST students across India. It is one the flagship intervention of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India and was introduced in the year 1997-98 to ensure tribal students get access to quality education in the remote areas. EMRSs are set up in States/UTs with grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India. As per the budget 2018-19, every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 indigenous persons, India have an Eklavya Model Residential School by the year 2022.
