AGARTALA, June 2 (TIWN): According to skymetweather.com, there may be flood in various areas in the Northeast in the next week.
Heavy to very heavy rain and thundershower activities are expected over the southern states including Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura beginning from May 31. Rain intensity will also increase over parts of Manipur and Mizoram.
In fact, adjoining parts of East Bangladesh will be witnessing heaviest spells.
These heavy rains will continue till June 6 and 7 over the southern parts followed by light to moderate rainfall activity over northern parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. This would also mark the onset of Monsoon 2019. Skymet Weather has already predicted that onset of Monsoon 2019 is expected wround June 6, with an error margin of +/- 2 days.
The reason for these increased rains has been attributed to the formation of an east-west trough which is extending from Bihar to Tripura across parts of Bangladesh. Strong winds from Bay of Bengal are also enhancing moisture feed over the northeastern states.
Moreover, a cyclonic circulation will also develop over Bangladesh and adjoining areas so we can say that first week of June will bring flooding rains over Meghalaya, Tripura and parts of south Assam, Mizoram and Manipur.
