AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, May 25 (TIWN): Tripura Congress President Pradyot Manikya has urged the post-poll violence victims to lodge FIR immediately and to submit in the Congress Bhawan with lists of their damaged properties and medical expenses. Congress has started preparation to move in Supreme Court demanding compensation for each victim, urging to contact with Congress leaders. Congress State President Pradyot Manikya said, in 1993 Advocate Pijush Biswas also filed a similar case on behalf of victims in the High Court and it's judgement has come. Now, the Govt is bound to compensate the victims. Addressing media at the Congress Bhawan, Congress State President said, “During and after the Election, it is the duty of the Election Commission and State Govt to ensure the safety of the people and maintain the law and order, but Election Commission has miserably failed to control the law and order as well as State Govt too. Thus, it’s our request that all the victims should file FIRs and submit to usâ€.
“It is very important that you lodge FIRs. When we will receive the FIR copies, then only we can move ahead. In case of train accident, ONGC plant’s explosion the compensations have to be given by Railway Ministry and the ONGC. In case of post poll violence the Election Commission of India and Administration are responsible”, he said.
“It is duty of the administration to provide security to the people. If they can’t provide security to the citizens, then they have to compensate them. As they could not secure people, according to their duty norms, thus it is now their responsibility to compensate by them”, Pradyot Manikya said.
Tripura post poll violence has hit the peace since the result of Lok Sabha Election was declared on Thursday. The GB hospital’s space is turning smaller because of larger section of people are admitted there after beaten by ruling party cadres, who were victimized in post poll violence.
Over hundreds of people are hospitalized in critical situation. Thousands of property losses are being reported across the state.
