Illegally arrested Tripura journalist released in bail, Court questions about ‘Female Mobs attack on Journalist inside Court Premise

AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): Illegally arrested Tripura journalist Saikat Talapatra has been released in bail on Friday as court found so major allegation against Saikat Talapatra for keeping in jail custody. Justice Sharmistha Mukharjee while pronouncing the hearing said, there is no reason that the accused will not get bail. In the hearing report of Sharmistha Mukharjee it has been said, “Considering all the materials on record and after hearing both sides, I am of the considered opinion that if the accused person is released on bail…..it may not hamper the further investigation”. The bail bond was 20000, said court source. The justice further blasted Police commenting, “Today the OC, West Agartala PS and Court inspector, Sadar Police court have furnished reports in compliance with the order dated 1.5.2019. According to Police report the way from the police lockup to the learned court, some slogans were made, unidentified female mob and they were trying to physically assault accused Saikat Talapatra. I have pursuit the report…”.Noteworthy, earlier Human Rights Organization condemns attack on arrested Tripura Journalist at Court Premise, blames Police for failure to safeguard an accused.

Severe attacks are being held on journalists, media persons in Tripura.

It was on Sunday that Saikat Talapatra was arrested from Agartala Airport when he was flying to Kolkata after fabricated case was lodged against him.

The case was lodged after he posted about Biplab Deb and allegedly shared news published in various national media about the ongoing divorce case of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb and his wife. 

Saikat Talapatra also didn’t directly mentioned any name in his post but still police lodged FIR and today court gave him a bail.

Shaikat’s arrest was a part of ongoing arrests of various people including a police constable Jamal Hossain after they shared news about Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s ongoing divorce case in court at Delhi, whereas Biplab Deb didn’t dare to file any case against any national media houses which are still strict to their stand that Biplab Deb is undergoing divorce case with wife, which proves the news have been 100% true. 

Before the arrest, Biplab Deb’s wife directly told media that either “legal” or “illegal”, but they will take action against all who talked about the divorce case. Earlier, in Manipur Kishorchandra Wangkhem was arrested in November 2018 after he criticized BJP and RSS.

 Since BJP came in power attacks on journalists have increased double. A 40 years old newspaper Daily-Desher-Katha, TV channel Mrinalini ENN, Channel Din Raat were shutdown by Biplab Deb Govt.

Attacks on Tripurainfoway.com was covered nationwide. TIWN Editor’s senior citizen parents, journalists, photographers all were harassed by police which were stopped after High Court intervened.
