Agartala, Oct 15 (TIWN): To offer comfortable journey to the rail passengers, the concerned department has added 5 more compartments in the merely Agartala-Karimganj train today. The prime conveyance of Tripura people to maintain their day to day service and economic activities has fallen down due to mega block from October 1, this year. Since then the Railway Ministry has been continuing rail service with only one train consisting 5 compartments.

As a result, the regular rail passengers had been facing crucial problem due to insufficient seats during the travel. Recently they had demanded for a train with 12 compartments instead of 5 compartments. As a token of response to their demands, the Ministry has added 5 more compartments in the Agartala-Karimganj train today.

According to the Station Master (in charge)- M. Yadav, the problem is being solved now. “Passengers can enjoy a happy and comfortable journey from Agartala station easily”, he said. The Agartala-Karimganj (up) passenger train departs from Agartala railway station by 9.30 am while the down train arrives at 17.45 pm, in the evening every day, he added.

According the highly placed sources, the ministry has been planning to extend railway services by adding more 2-3 passenger trains from Agartala halt during the Mega block.

The Railway Department has started converting the meter-gauge line into broad-gauge from Lumding to Silchar in the first phase from October 01. It will take more than one year to complete the work. The next phase of conversion from Badarpur to Agartala will take place after the completion of first phase.
