AGARTALA, October 14 (TIWN): A massive protest rally was organized by Bishalgarh Block Congress today demanding immediate arrest of Bimal Chakraborty, the prime accused of multi-crore scam in Bishalgarh R.D. Block.

While speaking in the rally opposition leader Sudip Roy Burman said that, due to the influence of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar the police are not taking any kind of action against the scam star. The CM is providing full safe guard to Bimal Chakraborty.

He further said that, the amount misappropriated through corruption at block level may scale new heights as out 52 Gram Panchayets (GP) in Bishalgarh RD block Rs. 17 crore has been traced out, auditing 36 GPs only where more 17 are still to be audited. Complete eyewash has been made by the Chief Minister as after even 25 days no arrest has been made and auditing in every GPs/VPs is compulsory, he added.

He also mentioned that, under instruction from top brass, the incumbent Block Development Officer (BDO) of Bishalgarh, Subrata Das, registered an FIR against his predecessor and incumbent Assistant Director of Information Department, Bimal Chakraborty and 11 others. The alleged scam in MGNREGA fund and a few other Central flagship projects have occurred during past two financial years, according to the report of State audit bureau. ALL the officials have been put under suspension on charges of corruption.

All officials including Bimal were suspended for involvement and indulgence in corruption at block level in implementation of Central schemes, Rural Development Minister told, recently. Police are probing the case. District Magistrate (Sepahijala) has also been asked to initiate an inquiry into the case, the Minister added. State government had taken sufficient measures to contain corruption at block levels. A huge number of scams including misappropriation of government funds from the MGNREGS, PDS and other funds were unearthed at the Bishalgarh sub-division in special internal audits of the accounts of the BDO.
