Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Commerce to inaugurate Srinagar Border Haat on Oct 20

SABROOM / SRINAGAR, Oct 9 (TIWN): India and Bangladesh jointly will inaugurate Tripura's 1st border ‘haat,' or a common marketplace, Srinagar under Sabroom Subdivision, under South Tripura District. The trading post will help people from both sides sell their locally produced goods. The ‘haat' is 30 km from Sabroom Sub Division and 25 Km from the South Tripura District Head Quarter.Union Minister of Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate Srinagar border haat on October 20 in presence of her Bangladesh counterpart Tofil Ahmed.According to SDM Sabroom Rajib Dutta said, “We have tentatively fixed October 20 to open Srinagar border haat . Moreover it was decided to have another meeting with Bangladesh representative by October 15 to give the finishing touch to the proposed inaugural programme”.Dutta also said Union Commerce Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the first ever border haat. “We have already selected a site for helipad because Ms Sitharaman is supposed to visit Sabroom by chopper”.

Market sheds have been constructed to facilitate trade by  vendors from each side, who have been identified and trained by both countries to sell their produce. 

Three hundred people from each side will also be allowed to visit the ‘haat' with passes

Apart from that thousands of people are expected to attend this historic inauguration ceremony. Tripura's former Industry & Commerce MInister Jiten Chaudhury played a key role behind this first border hut development at Srinagar.

Total Rs. 2.51 crore has been spent to construct Srinagar border haat which will be second in the entire Northeast region after Meghalaya. Another border haat is waiting for inauguration at Kamalasagar in Sipahijala district.
