North Eastern Region of India, having situated at furthest corner of Easter India, is witnessing not only hurdles as regards geographical remoteness but the same also has created a state of asymmetry between the region and the rest of India. And quite often, the NorthEast and its people are seen as alien by the non NER states, to belittle the people of this integral part of India, sometimes out of fund and at times because of ignorance of the so called literate Indian citizens. And the NER, subsequently, suffers from multiple geo-political, socio-ethnic and socio-economic hindrances. Keeping in mind the same and to diminish or abolish the regional disparity, thereby, the North Eastern Council (NEC) was constituted by the union government. The North Eastern Council was constituted in 1971 by an Act of Parliament. The constitution of the Council has marked the beginning of a new chapter of concerted and planned endeavor for the rapid development of the Region. The NEC is the nodal agency for the economic and social development of the North Eastern Region which consists of the eight States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. Alongwith other NER states the NEC is also working relentlessly to enrich the very sphere including the priority sectors in the state Tripura.

Financial Support to the Student of North Eastern Region for Higher Professional Courses for students of Tripura to be implemented by Director of Higher & Technical Education of Govt. of Tripura; Setting up of 1000 MT Capacity Multipurpose Cold Storage at Amarpur to be implemented Director of Agriculture of Govt. of Tripura; Improvement of Bishalgarh-Boxanagar-Sonamura-Barpathari-Belonia Road (83 Kms) to be implemented by PWD; Establishment of State of the Art of Sericulture at Agartala to be implemented by Directorate of Handloom, Handicrafts & Sericulture, Govt. of Tripura are some of the ongoing projects funded by the NEC in Tripura. And nearly Rs. 2 crore has been released in the current financial year. Besides, under the NEC project itself, Rs. 45 lakh has been approved for providing training to the candidates aspiring to appear in various bank recruitment exams. NEC, thus, is striving to create a competitive and sustainable development in the state Tripura with having a priority in the Research & Development (R&D) and the infrastructure sector.
