‘By not treating all ADC areas equally under ADC-empowerment, Modi Govt has shown its narrow mentality for indigenous people’ : INPT

AGARTALA, March 5 (TIWN): Demanding same rule and power for 10 district councils, INPT has slammed the Modi Govt blaming to look at indigenous people in narrow way.

“Both the state and central govts are playing divide and rule policy centering the empowerment for the ADC and the new amendment brought for it. We are not afraid of even bullet. We’ll protest against this deprivation at the Northeastern and National level”, said INPT President Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl.

The policy adapted for amending Article 280, shows that not all the ADC areas of this state are to be empowered. It is totally insulting law.

INPT General Secretary Jagadish Debbarma said that except some financial rights, nothing was given to Tripura, whereas a draft was made in 2015 which could not be implemented.

Jagadish Debbarma further said, “To pass a bill it has to be approved by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha both sections of the parliament. Aim was to give 10 ADC areas of Northeast more power and we welcome to the spirit of the Govt but Tripura ADC has been totally deprived”.

“Since 2002, February 3rd, INPT has been struggling for more power for ADC. In a historical decision once in Tripura Assembly the then INPT MLA proposed one bill and it was supported by both CPI-M and Congress and since then this process has been started”.

“There is no doubt about that. INPT since 2002 in state and at Delhi has been protesting for this demand. But unfortunately today, being one constitution Tripura was deprived. The bill talked about Assam but there is no mention about Tripura, whereas UPA Govt attempted to increase the power of ADC and promote Kokborok language but the NDA Govt couldn’t fulfill that promise, even though one draft was prepared in 2015 with those issues which we had actually demanded. Thus this is noting but a JUMLA has been done by the NDA Govt”.
