KAMALPUR, Oct 9 (TIWN): Lack of proper and smoothly-run immersion place as well as the indifference of the Nagar Panchayat and Administration regarding environment has made the immersion a dreadful and polluting task, here at Kamalpur. It may seem a bit contradictory to the notion of ‘Golden Tripura’, but it is a fact that the oldest subdivision of the state Kamalpur still lacks a place for immersion of idols.
As a result, the organizers have to immerse the idols of Durga and other gods and goddesses at the places of their choice or from the Dhalai Bridge, connecting Kamalpur with Surma Assembly constituency. Now, on the bridge the organizers have to take down the shutters of the Lorries and to push the idols at least for a 70 feet dive. In this process, often the idols collide with pillars of the bridge or with other frameworks of the bridge which becomes a tearing sight for the devotees. Moreover, there remains always a possibility of falling off from the vehicle and get serious and even life-snatching injuries while pushing the idols. Interestingly, two or three decades ago there was a permanent immersion point called ‘Dashamighat’ , which now becomes the deserted place for sheer administrative negligence.
From the environmental point of view, the immersed idols float and some merge in river causing much damage to environment. Interestingly, the Nagar Panchayat authority and the so-called administration always blow trumpets of the environmental safeguards on the one hand, and on the other hand, remain shut up about the massive pollution.
