CM invites textile merchants of Bangladesh to Tripura : Tripura is a  potential trade partner: Dy High Commissioner

AGARTALA, October 8 (TIWN): Amidst all the high hopes and eagerness about the meeting between Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sandeep Chakraborty did not result at any conclusive end and no major disclosure has come out. “We have discussed issues and talks pertaining to sustain and enhance the cordial relation between us”, said Mr. Chakrtaborty post the meet. Termimg the talk as a progressive discussion he said that all the existing and ongoing developmental works and projects have been discussed in the meeting.Two of the significant issues bridge over Feni river and Agartala Akhaura railway lines have got a special mention in today’s meeting. The land acquisition, in this regard, is acting as an obstacle though the acquisition process is on but as the sources report, some hurdles are being faced in Bangladesh. While talking to the media, the Acting HIgh Commissioner of the Indian consulate at Bangladesh said that Tripura has a very good potential as regards trade and business activities.

 “Tripura as a place of business is very important to us”, he said. Neighboring Bangladesh possesses a mentionable share in the availably of power and state of art power plant in Tripura.  Bangladesh is all set to get 100 Mega Watt (MW) power from the Palatana power plant and the transmission lines will soon come up. A survey team is most likely to come in the current month. It needs a mention here that all the heavy machineries, equipments and electronic facilities came to Tripura through Bangladesh for the Palatana project site.

The garment quality of Bangladesh’s Dhaka is world renowned since the pre Independence days and at the present times, the same Industry is commanding one in the country concerned. Relating to the same, the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has invited the business class of Bangladesh to come to Tripura and initiate their garment trade and other industry facilities in the state Tripura. “If they require land and ask us for the same we shall arrange the same for facilitating the trade”, said Chief Minister.

Besides, border fencing still remains as a serious concern not only for illegal trafficking but for also other anti nation elements. “I am nothe authority to speak in this regard, higher authorities will look into the matter”, said Mr. Chakraborty who reached Agartala on last Oct 6. During his four day visit he will be visiting many of the project site and development works in which Bangladesh has substantial interest.

TIWN’s state Secretariat source revealed that with no major issues to cover up the earlier subjects of connectivity (railway) and Palatana primarily were there in the meeting between Chief Minister and the Commissioner.
