Agartala, October 8 (TIWN): The All India Congress Committee (AICC) today removed general secretary in-charge of Tripura Luizinho Faleiro from the charge of Tripura. The move came as a follow-up of a continued initiative of the Tripura PCC leaders to remove people in the helm of power of the party in the state which led to continued debacle in the past three consecutive elections.
Senior party leader and AICC general secretary V Narayanswami is learnt to replace Faleiro as in-charge of Tripura. Highly placed sources in the party said that Luizinho Faleiro would be placed in charge of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) as president.

Senior Congress leader and former MLA Tapas Dey welcomed the move and said, “Faleiro was a man of Goa. So far we witnessed, he had no organizational skill and he didn’t know about the CPI (M) strategy and policy. That’s why we couldn’t progress in organization or in electoral results”.

Dey added that V Narayanswami, who was earlier in-charge of Tripura PCC from the All India Congress Committee, had fought strongly against the CPI (M).

“If he is appointed in-charge of Tripura, we can expect things to get better”, De said.

Former veteran Congress leader and incumbent Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress chairperson Ratan Chakraborty denied giving any official statement on the issue. Internal sources in the party, however, revealed that Chakraborty was happy at the decision to remove Faleiro from the charge of Tripura.

Asked about the issue, Chakraborty said that all incumbent PCC leaders including Faleiro were liable for reducing Congress to a microscopic minority in Tripura.

Ratan Chakraborty, who was declared as Congress candidate from Khayerpur constituency in the 2013 assembly constituency, was suddenly dropped from the candidate list and was replaced by Baptu Chakraborty who suffered horrible defeat at the hands of CPI (M) contestant.

Chakraborty left the party soon after. It is learnt that the plot of dropping Chakraborty from the candidate list was engineered by Luizinho Faleiro.

Former opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath couldn’t be reached for his reaction. He was dropped from the position of opposition leader and replaced by incumbent opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman during the tenure of Luizinho Faleiro as AICC in-charge for Tripura.
