Agartala, Oct 8 (TIWN): The women help line- 1091 (toll-free) in Tripura has been gaining popularity frequently among the women victims, as they need not to visit the Police Station to lodge complaint or to seek assistance of police in case of any harassment. This Help Line service is available for all the women/girls of Tripura irrespective of their age or profession.

“Over 200 calls were received on this help line from Sept 01 to till date including Durga puja days. On the basis of actionable information, several prompt actions were taken by the police including registration of criminal cases”, said a communiqué inside police department. The source also confirmed that the total number of received calls on this helpline has been increased in comparison to the number of received calls from April to August, this year.

In order to provide maximum possible support to the women in distress amidst the high trend of crime against women across the state, Tripura police had launched his helpline- 1091 for women on March 08, this year. This toll free helpline was inaugurated by the then DGP- C. Balasubramanian on the occasion International Woman’s Day, this year in presence of the IGP (Law and order) Anurag Dhankar, IGP (Training) B K Roy and other senior police officials. 

According to the police sources, this helpline works round the clock to receive any call from women in distress from all over the state. On receipt of calls, police takes immediate follow up action by this control room by intimating the concerned Police Stations or Police Offices.

In addition, Tripura Police again requests the general public to create awareness about this helpline for making best use of this facility for prompt police action and to ensure safety and security of women. Any person can dial on No.1091 from any mobile or land line phone of Tripura to give information to the police regarding any crime / harassment in which a women / girl is victim.
