India envisaging exclusive Economic Zone in Bangladesh : Survey team to inspect transmission lines for sharing Palatana reaching this month

AGARTALA, October 7 (TIWN): After reaching Agartala yesterday, Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sandeep Chakraborty, met power and transport minister Manik Dey at State Secretariat in the evening. The progress of all thr ongoing bilateral projects was discussed in the meeting. The commissioner is repoted to visit some of the project sites in which Bangladesh has a substantial inters according to the agreements between these two South Asian nations.As Mr. Chakraborty informed, Bangladesh is all set to get 100 Mega Watt (MW) power from the Palatana power plant and the transmission lines will soon come up. With an intention to thrust an impetus to the relation with its socio-political and ethno-strategic neighbor, India is envisaging a one of its kind Economic Zone in the Bangladesh to enrich the economic well being of both India and Bangladesh.

A survey team is most likely to come in the current month. It needs a mention here that all the heavy machineries, equipments and electronic facilities came to Tripura through Bangladesh for the Palatana project site. Capitalising on the same, the opposition and separatist forces of Bangladesh are making the issue a political one by urging What Bangladesh has got after facilitating the transport of an Indian industry? The transmission lines (in India) which will carry electricity to Bangladesh will be constructed by Power Grid Corporation of India.

Apart from the share of Palatana, India will bear the entire expenditure to finance a comprehensive development project for the upgradtion of Ashuganj river project. “Government of India’s water and power consultant has already prepared the project report”, said Mr. Chakraborty. During his visit he will visit Palatana project site and Sabroom for proposed construction of a bridge over Feni river. Meanwhile, the railway tracks between Agartala and Akhaura will soon be there in the railway maps of both the countries as land acquisition is in progress in both the side of the border.
