Indian Deputy High Commissioner’s (Bangladesh) visit to Agartala: Palatana in agenda

AGARTALA, October 6 (TIWN):Indian deputy high commissioner to Dhaka, Sandeep Chakraborty, today reached Agartala through the Akhaura Check Post at around 10 AM. The Acting High Commissioner of Indian consulate at Dhaka will meet Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and other designated officials of state administration to discuss various bilateral issues. Besides, issues ranging from Border Haat to Palatana are reported to be there in Mr. Chakraborty’s agenda on his visit to Tripura. The bilateral trade volume between India and Bangladesh is soaring and yielding interest for both the nation. In the Financial year 2013-14(11 months) Bangladesh had imported good and articles worth Rs. 5513 crore from India while the amount Export was Rs. 456 crore.Meanwhile the much talked railway issue is also to be discussed during the visit of the Deputy High Commissioner.

Relating to the same, since long these two strategic partners of South Asian countries have been partnering to facilitative social welfare and social well being through commercial activities and other socio cultural harmonization. Tripura, incidentally shares a long international boundary of 856 KM. Thus, state Tripura is in the foray of utilising the Border Haat form of business to utlisise the sound mode of trade with neighboring Bangladesh. Border Haat businesses are to facilitate the sale of locally-produced items among people living in inaccessible areas of both the countries. India and Bangladesh have decided to set up 10 haats (bazaars) along the international border in the North East to facilitate the sale of locally-produced items among people living in inaccessible areas of both the countries. Eight such Border Haats will be set up in Tripura and two others in Meghalaya.
