Agartala, October 4 (TIWN): In a rather startling turn of events, turnout of people in the immersion of idols of Goddess Durga and other deities from the Durga Bari in Agartala city at the end of Devi Paksha on was found way higher than rallies of booze loving funmakers in the city.
While most Durga Puja organizing clubs took utmost measures to control untoward behavior from club members and supporters, many Durga Puja idol immersion rallies saw over-excited devotees in the city. People who participated in the the ‘bhasan’ (immersion ceremony) from Durga Bari was way more sober.
Friday saw massive gathering as people came to pay respects at the ancient tradition of the King participating in the immersion rituals.
Pradyot Bikram Kishore Manikya, current head of the Tripura royal family, paid respects to the idols of Goddess Durga and other deities in front of the Raj Andar in the presence of other members of the royal family.
The Tripura throne was later opened for prayers and family rituals of the kings. Pradyot Manikya was accorded a nineteen gun salute according to the agreement between the Kings of Tripura and the union of India since the merger of Tripura with India in 1949.
Maharaj Pradyot Manikya paid respects to the throne in the presence of the royal priest by wielding the royal sword beside the throne.
The throne of Tripura is one of the oldest surviving thrones of the country and the only surviving throne in the entire NE India.
The throne of Tripura was a gift from another of Yajati’s descendants, Maharaj Yudhistir of the Mahabharata.
