UDAIPUR, October 2 (TIWN): In protest against the alleged continuous pressure on them by the members of various clubs and also by a section of police for money the cow businessmen coming to Jamjuri Bazar from different parts blocked the Kakraban-Udaipur road for more than 2 hours on Thursday. The blockade started at around 11.3 in the morning and continued up to 2.30pm.
Ahead of Bakrid Eid hundreds of cow businessmen today came Jamjuri Cow Bazaar with their cows. But the organizers of different pujas were alleged to have stopped their cars carrying cows on the road and demanded huge amount of money from the businessmen. Even a section of police of Kakraban Police Station were alleged to have indulged in this type of extortion.
In protest the businessmen blocked the Kakraban-Udaipur Road for almost two hours in Jamjuri. The protesters stranded on the road and even burnt tyres as a mark of protests. Speaking to the Press the agitators said," Clubs are demanding subscriptions @ Rs 5000/- from each vehicles carrying cows and even a section of police joined them. Police too joined them. Police are asking for ' Career Licence' but every year we come here to sell cows ahead of Bakrid Eid and no one stops us. All on a sudden police too are demanding compensation of Rs 5000/- to10000 /- per vehicle."
Hundreds of cars and passengers suffered for this protests. Hearing the news a large number of police led by Officer-in-Charge of Kakraban Jatindra Das rushed to the spot at 12.40pm. After a lot of discussion police succeeded to persuaded the agitators to withdraw their agitation and from 2.30pm traffic in this road becomes normal.
