AGARTALA, Jan 3 (TIWN): CPI-M has reacted sharply over Modi Govt’s initiative for inviting Vedanta Limited aimed to weaken ONGC.

CPI-M said, ONGC like companies have given jobs and works to thousand of people and BJP Govt’s new attempt to loot Tripura natural gas is part of capitalist move.

Earlier, only ONGC was the owner of all such resources’ searches, but now Govt has called Vedanta Limited to join in the search. The Govt believes that Tripura has huge amounts of hidden natural gas resources.

Vedanta Limited, formerly known as Sesa Sterlite/Sesa Goa Limited, is a mining company based in India, with its main operations in iron ore, Zinc and Aluminium mines in Goa, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Odisha.

This may lead ONGC under competition as earlier only ONGC could search state’s gas resources.

Since BJP Govt in power, there is a deteriorating relation with ONGC and Chief Minister has asked 100 crores taxes from ONGC, even though ONGC was set up in Tripura like geographically challenged place under CPI-M Govt in State and Congress Govt at Centre to end loadshedding problems.
