AGARATALA, Dec 30 (TIWN): After massive condemnation, media-wide criticism, for the first time, Govt has taken strict action against ruling party miscreants as one accused in slapping former State Minister Finance Bhanulal Saha was arrested today morning.
The arrestee has been identified as Saikat Debnath who on December 27, during Municipal poll had slapped, punched former CPI-M Minister Bhanulal Saha, who went in booths as a polling agent.
The arrest took place after 36 hours of the incident, was produced before he court and sent in jail custody.
However, there are more accused in this poll violence and assaulting the Minister and on the next day the same group led by Nabdul Banik (Yuva Morcha Bishalgarh leader) allegedly further assaulted Gautam Das, CPI-M State Party Secretary.
Ex-CM Manik Sarkar demanded arrests of the culprits connected in the violence.
Earlier through a press conference BJP had denied Saikat’s involvement in this crime, but police have arrested him today in connection with assaulting the Minister.
