Agartala, Sept 30 (TIWN): Over 75 Post Graduate (PG) doctors of all departments under Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) today staged a 2-hour long sit-in demonstration in front of the AGMC Principles office. They also submitted deputation with some demands for the interest of junior PG doctors of AGMC to the Principal, Director of Medical Education, Health Secretary and Tripura Health Minister subsequently.

A section of PG doctors alleged, they have been working in a hectic situation since long period. The senior residences and consultants are not performing their duty in a proper manner. As a result the junior doctors often face some problematic situation in case of emergency at Agartala Government Medical College.

A local source inside AGMC told TIWN over telephone that, some of the senior doctors refer the patients outside of the state without performing their duty accordingly. The source also alleged that the AGMC authorities have failed to maintain the basic infrastructures.

“We have been working at AGMC in a tensed situation as because of senior residences and consultants since long time. Now, we want to work in peaceful atmosphere”, said some PG doctors of AGMC.

They also alleged that pushing the junior doctors in trouble, many of the senior doctors and consultants avoid their responsibilities in case of emergency. As a result, the junior doctors are being blamed even after relentless effort for many times.

Prasanta Das, who had been suffering from shortness of breath, was admitted at AGMC in the way back 2013. But suddenly the condition of this patient turned deteriorated in presence of the sisters and junior doctors. The duty sisters had immediately called up the senior doctors for better treatment. But unfortunately the patient got died on 8.45 in the next morning allegedly before the senior doctors reached hospital. According to the sources, the doctors were supposed to attend their duties by 8 am but the negligence of the senior doctors allegedly claimed the life of Prasanta.

Of late, following this case, a departmental inquiry was conducted in a short span of time while the PG doctors and duty sisters did not receive any blame. Later, again a departmental inquiry was done on the same matter by disobeying the result of first departmental inquiry and breaking the first departmental committee where the duty sisters and PG doctors were fully blamed for that incident.

According to the students, they were not supposed to be blamed for that incident as the junior doctors have performed their duties best.

During the sit-in demonstration, the PG doctors today demanded for basic infrastructure in AGMC, availability of senior doctors and consultants and to ensure the PG doctors are not fall in trap of negligence. Tripura Doctors’ Forum has conveyed their unconditional support in favour of the AGMC PG doctors. the Principal of AGMC- K.K. Kundu assured them for proper solution.
