AGARTALA, Dec 12 (TIWN): Opposition CPI-M has condemned State Election Commission’s decision of postponing election date without even informing any of the opposition party yet. CPI-M’s objection is however valid, as the party brought pointed issues which an election commission "should not" be done.

CPI-M in a press release signed by Haripada Das raised these points saying, the reason behind postponing is suspicious.

The points are : (1) Even though the notice was signed on December 11, but till now the opposition parties were not even notified with the postponing issue till now, (2) In Election Commission website nothing is yet displayed regarding the postponing of election, (3) When the election was announced to be held on December 27 on the immediate date December 28 the counting has been declared. Generally at least 1-day gap is given in postponing the election, but by doing this election commission has broken the protocol, (4) Under which cause the election was postponed, it has also not been said, (5) No all-party-meeting was conducted before the serious decision, (6) No all-party-meeting till now was conducted ahead of election, which is held every time before all types of elections from Assembly Election to By-Election, (7) 27th December is considered as “Mass Literacy Day” which is being observed since 1945 but this year by announcing election on this historical day, election commission has not done justification.

Noteworthy, the upcoming Municipal Election by-election has been postponed in Tripura. The election which was scheduled to be held on December 22, now will be conducted on December 27. In a fresh notification State Election Commission has delayed the election procedure according to approval of State Govt. The counting to be conducted on December 28 for 158 seats where 91 seats have already won by BJP without any contest. However, nomination submission procedure has been already completed.
