Agartala, September 27(TIWN): Train services once again suffered setback today after sudden landslides blockaded railway tunnel points at Wakshimalum, some 35 Km away from Teliamura township.
The 52580 Dharmanagar-Agartala and 52575 Agartala-Dharmanagar trains were cancelled this morning after the landslide hit the tracks. The express train was cancelled in the morning as well.
Sources at the Dharmanagar railway station said later this evening that sudden mudslides left huge piles of debris at Wakshimalum around 8 AM this morning.
Railway Police Force (RPF) and local residents engaged in clearing the debris which took till 4 PM this afternoon.
A group of auto-rickshaw drivers took advantage of the situation and heavily taxed the passengers as patients and office-goers had to rush.
Train services were normalized after 4:30 PM today. The down Dharmanagar-Agartala reached Badharghat railway station in late evening.
The Wakshimalum railway tunnel point area was recently flagged high risk prone as excessive rainfall caused the mud and bed rock stuffed hillside extremely dangerous with potential for repeated mudslides.
The hill route from Silchar till Agartala experienced five landslides in the past four weeks. The route experienced four major landslides in the past one month at Swapnabari, Longtrai, Mungiyakami and Wakshimalum as ongoing monsoon made the hills highly risk prone for mudslides, a railway official said this evening.
