'Know Your Assam Rifles' : Weapon and Equipment Display organized at NIT-Silchar

AGARTALA, Oct 29 (TIWN): The Assam Rifles are known to be the 'Sentinels of The North East’, by not only ensuring territorial integrity and security but also contributing immensely in instilling a sense of patriotism in youth of this part of NE region. Kadamtala Battalion as part of 22 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) organised two day Weapon and Equipment Display event at National Institute Of Technology (NIT), Silchar titled as “ Know Your Assam Rifles ” as part of Tecnoesis 2018 of NIT Silchar. The Institute is among one of the premium and prestigious centre of excellence of country. The aim of the mela was to educate and instill a sense of motivation among the future technocrats to pursue career in the forces and to reach out and energise the civil society and deepen the sense of patriotism.

The might of Assam  Rifles was showcased in equiment display which included a wide array of modern and sophisticated weapons, modern surveillance equipments, quad copter surveillance, bomb disposal equipments and other special equipments. Dog display was organised to showcase capabilities of trained Security Forces dogs. Awareness Cell was established in order to assist and resolve the queries of young minds about joining the forces.  In order to resolve the grievances of the ex-servicemen, a Suvidha Cell was also established for assistance. The Pipe Band display mesmerized the visitors  with their martial music tunes.

The youth took keen interest in absorbing the knowledge of various weapons and equipments displayed.  The mela also provided an opportunity to the young boys and girls to have a close look to the weaponry which they usually see on the  small screen. People were seen taking selfies and clicking pics, holding various weapons.

The event witnessed great enthusiasm and active participation from the students & staff of NIT, students of other  schools and locals of Silchar. The event left a deep impact on the minds of everyone especially young minds. A total of 3500 people including students, staff from 20 different institutes and schools of Silchar, locals & Exservicemen witnessed the event. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr  Lakshmanan S DC Silchar, Prof Sivaji Bandyopadhyay (Director) & Staff of NIT Silchar and other govt &  civil dignitaries.
